The first was a search engine he was involved in building on his travels, designed to serve the Nepalese market. The specific idea for Ecosia, as an eco-friendly alternative to Google, has its origins in two different projects Kroll had worked on while at university. “The climate shouldn’t be a sub-topic for the marketing department, it should be a primary concern of the CEO and influence the strategic decisions of the company.” The anti-Google “There are quite a few companies that are now serious about, but too many are still using it as a marketing tool - and that’s a problem,” he said.
